Equinox by Solstice Variety Showcase - 2016

Project Type

Variety Art Showcase

Location

Brooklyn, NY

Date

May 2021

Equinox by Solstice turned out to be an unforgettable showcase in the heart of Brooklyn that featured some of the borough's most talented artist. Perfectly held on the birthday of Notorious B.I.G., one of Brooklyn's most talented artist. With a turnout of about 250, the guests wined, dined, danced, and immersed themselves in hours of creative expression.

To spark things off, hometown Hip Hop artist Dyme-a-Duzin got the crowd hyped up with a live lyrical set. It didn't take long for the free cocktails to kick in and get the crowd jumping! He let everyone know why he's one of the rising stars in the game. Immediately afterwards, the crowd switched gears and switched rooms to witness a 30 minute intense art battle that featured 5 of Brooklyn's finest visual artists. Maggie Allen, Marthalicia Matarrita, Philip Hardy, Sarah Schrift painted amazing pieces, as Tabitha Whitley took home the crown and the jackpot! At the same time, 5 lucky guest won each of the 5 pieces. Pretty cool, right? The focus then shifted back to the main stage to witness the on-stage debut of Nihara Nichelle's “Velma,” the Brooklyn based awkward, nerdy, and super funny comedic character. Coming from her online video series to the stage, she put the crowd on notice!

It would be totally egregious not to mention the maestra of the evening soundtrack who kept the crowd dancing between acts, DJ Chela! Playing everything from African Beats to Latin to 90's R&B and of course Biggie! With the untimely loss of one of the greatest artists in history, Prince, it was only right to give "The Artist" a proper tribute. Luv Muwakkil, choreographed by Brook Notary put on sensual and acrobatic dance masterpiece.
The performance of the night went to Sarah Screams and her classically trained opera voice. Those notes sent chills up your spine and could break glass tables! Not to mention, she did it all in burlesque...wow! She also brought a Theremin player, an amazing contortionist and accordion player. It was a great show within a show! To bring it all together, young actor, singer, dancer, writer Marquis Wood blessed the crowd with a spoken word play that opened up the minds and hearts of the crowd. Lookout for Marquis on the big screen. He's coming!

Wrapping up the night of incredible acts was Los Cumpleanos with the final bang! Playing Colombian Salsa and Cumba, they made everyone take to the dance floor. Let me just say...these guys are good!

What a night of artistic expression from all disciplines and angles!
